the Supreme Court is scheduled to hear on Monday the plea filed by the West Bengal government challenging the CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) probe into the attack on ED (Enforcement Directorate) and CAPF (Central Armed Police Forces) teams in Sandeshkhali, North 24 Parganas District, on January 5.
On March 5, the Calcutta High Court issued an order for an independent CBI probe, directing the West Bengal Police to transfer the accused mastermind of the attack, Sheikh Shahjahan, from the custody of the CID to the CBI on the same day.
In response to this, the state government lodged a Special Leave Petition (SLP) with the top court, arguing that the Calcutta High Court’s decision to transfer the investigation to the CBI was made hastily and undermines its right to pursue available legal remedies.
