On Tuesday, the Central Government announced a fresh one-year term for Justice Rajesh Sekhri as an additional judge of the Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court.
Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal shared this update via a tweet.
The Supreme Court Collegium had recommended the extension on May 17, following a suggestion from the High Court’s Collegium on April 23. The recommendation was made as there were no available vacancies for permanent judges.
According to the Memorandum of Procedure, the Supreme Court Collegium consulted judges familiar with the High Court’s affairs. A two-judge committee assessed Justice Sekhri’s judgments, finding them well-reasoned and supported by appropriate case laws.
After reviewing the relevant materials and evaluating his merit and suitability, the Supreme Court Collegium recommended his extension starting July 29.
This recommendation has now been approved by the Central Government.
