A Delhi court has remanded Arvind Kejriwal’s aide, Bibhav Kumar, to five days in Delhi Police custody in connection with the Swati Maliwal assault case.
Judge Gaurav Goyal passed the order past midnight after hearing arguments from both the Delhi Police and Kumar’s counsels.
Additional Public Prosecutor Atul Srivastava, representing the Delhi Police, sought seven days of police custody.
Kumar’s counsels, Rajiv Mohan and Shadan Farasat, opposed the plea, arguing that the arrest was made hastily since Kumar had already filed for anticipatory bail.
Kumar was arrested by the Delhi Police earlier today, rendering his anticipatory bail application moot.
Swati Maliwal, a Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament from AAP, has alleged that Kumar assaulted her at Kejriwal’s residence. According to the FIR, Kumar hit Maliwal in the chest, stomach, and pelvic area with his legs.
AAP has denied the allegations. Videos have surfaced on social media showing Maliwal arguing with security personnel as she walked out of the Chief Minister’s residence.
