The father and grandfather of a 17-year-old boy, who recently killed two people while driving a Porsche, were granted bail by a Pune Court in a case involving the alleged kidnapping and confinement of their family driver, PTI reported.
The duo allegedly confined their family driver against his will and lured him with money and gifts to take responsibility for the accident that occurred on May 19.
They were charged under Sections 365 (kidnapping with intent to secretly and wrongfully confine a person) and 368 (wrongfully concealing or keeping a person in confinement) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
On May 31, they were sent to 14 days of judicial custody.
The juvenile, a son of a prominent builder in Pune, hit a motorcycle with his Porsche in the Kalyani Nagar area.
The vehicle reportedly dragged one of the two people on the bike and finally came to a stop after hitting another two-wheeler and a car.
He was booked for rash and negligent driving, causing harm by endangering lives, and death by negligence under Sections 304A, 279, 337, and 338 of the IPC, along with provisions of the Maharashtra Motor Vehicles Act.
Later, the teen’s father was also booked under various provisions, including Section 75 (willful neglect of a child or exposing a child to mental or physical harm) and Section 77 (supplying a child with intoxicating liquor or drugs) of the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015. He secured bail in that case on June 28.
Meanwhile, the Bombay High Court ordered the release of the minor boy from an observation home on June 24.
Though the boy had initially been released by a Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) under parental monitoring soon after the accident, his bail was subsequently canceled, and he was sent to the observation home for detention.
The High Court observed that the custody order placing him in the observation home was illegal and issued without jurisdiction. Therefore, it directed that the teen be placed in the custody of his paternal aunt.
