On Monday, the Kerala High Court Advocate’s Association (KHCAA) wrote to Acting Chief Justice A Muhamed Mustaque of the Kerala High Court regarding non-lawyers and “outsiders” occupying parking spaces designated for lawyers at a chamber complex near the High Court.
The letter stated that these non-lawyers and outsiders leave their vehicles parked continuously or overnight at the chamber complex, making it difficult for KHCAA members and lawyers to find parking space in the morning.
The security personnel appointed by KHCAA at the chamber complex are also struggling to manage the influx of vehicles parked by non-members, added the letter, signed by KHCAA Secretary, advocate Anoop V Nair.
Notably, the letter highlighted a recent incident on July 7 (Sunday), where the tires of 7-8 cars owned by KHCAA members were punctured by unknown miscreants.
The KHCAA has urged the Acting Chief Justice of the High Court to forward a complaint to the police station so that a case may be registered and an effective investigation conducted.
The letter mentioned that the association had already written to the police regarding the matter after receiving several complaints about unauthorized cars being left parked at the chamber complex.
Additionally, the KHCAA has proposed maintaining an overnight register to ensure that only members park their cars overnight at the chamber complex in case of an emergency.
The KHCAA has called for the introduction of strict measures to ensure that only members and advocates park in the chamber area daily.
The KHCAA Secretary warned that the association should not be held responsible if any serious security issue arises from the ongoing situation.
On July 8, the KHCAA issued a notification announcing its decision to install CCTV cameras to monitor the parking space area, provided the High Court permits it.
The notification further denied allegations that the controversy was linked to notices sent to KHCAA members to remove cars from the area.
“The KHCAA has reason to believe that the act of puncturing the tires was planned and executed to damage the good reputation of the KHCAA among the members,” the notification said.
