A Bengaluru court on Sunday ordered Karnataka Member of Legislative Council (MLC) Dr. Suraj Revanna, the elder son of HD Revanna and brother of Prajwal Revanna, to 14 days of judicial custody in connection with a sexual abuse case.
Magistrate KN Shivakumar issued the order after a special Sunday hearing held at his residence in National Games Village, Koramangala.
Suraj Revanna was arrested by Hassan police on Sunday morning following an interrogation at Hassan’s cyber station on Saturday evening.
A First Information Report (FIR) was filed against Suraj under Sections 377 (unnatural offences), 342 (illegal detention), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 34 (acts committed by several persons with a common intention) based on a complaint by a youth.
The youth had lodged a complaint with the Director General of Police (DGP) and the Home Minister, alleging that Suraj Revanna had engaged in sexual intercourse with him at Gannigada Farm House in Channarayapatna taluk. The youth also claimed that he and his family were threatened by Suraj Revanna and his close friend Shivakumar of Hanumanahalli village.
The case was subsequently transferred to Holenarseepur Rural Police Station. The complainant’s statement was taken on Saturday, leading to the registration of the FIR. Earlier today, the DGP transferred the case to the Crime Investigation Department (CID).
Notably, on Friday, Shivakumar had filed a complaint against the youth at Holenarasipur City Police Station. He alleged that the youth had threatened to accuse Revanna of sexual assault if he did not help him find a job. Shivakumar also claimed that the youth had demanded ₹5 crore to avoid filing the allegedly false complaint.
