The Union government has approved the appointment of judicial officer Ashish Naithani as a judge of the Uttarakhand High Court.
The announcement was made by Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal via Twitter.
Naithani’s elevation was recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium in December 2024. The decision was finalized during a Collegium meeting on December 22, presided over by Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna. Following the Union government’s approval, Naithani is set to join the bench.
The Uttarakhand High Court, which has a sanctioned strength of 11 judges, has been functioning with only 6 judges, leaving 5 vacancies. Naithani’s appointment will contribute to addressing this deficit and strengthening the court’s capacity.
