Anjali Birla, an Indian Railway Personnel Service (IRPS) officer and daughter of Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, has approached the Delhi High Court seeking the removal of social media posts that allege she cleared the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) exams on her first attempt due to her father’s influence.
Senior Advocate Rajiv Nayar mentioned the plea before Justice Navin Chawla for urgent listing. Justice Chawla agreed to hear the case urgently today.
Birla claims the social media allegations are defamatory and false. The case was filed through advocates Sanyam Khetarpal and Aditya Manubarwala.
The allegations, which went viral after Om Birla’s election as Lok Sabha Speaker and the NEET UG paper leak controversy, assert that Anjali Birla, allegedly a model, cleared the UPSC exams due to her father’s powerful position.
Anjali Birla has denied these claims, stating that the social media accounts are part of a pre-planned conspiracy to defame her and her father.
She has named X (Twitter), Google, and John Doe (unknown individuals) as parties to her suit, seeking the removal of the posts. She provided details of 16 X accounts, including a parody account of YouTuber Dhruv Rathee.
Contrary to the social media claims, Birla is not an IAS officer but an IRPS officer. She appeared for the UPSC exams in 2019, joined the commission in April 2021, and completed her compulsory training last year.
