A Varanasi sessions court has dismissed a plea seeking the registration of a first information report (FIR) against Samajwadi Party (SP) President Akhilesh Yadav and AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi concerning their comments on the Kashi Vishwanath-Gyanvapi Mosque case.
Sessions Judge Vinod Kumar rejected the revision petition filed by advocate Harishankar Pandey, who sought to initiate action against the two leaders. In February 2023, a magistrate court had previously dismissed Pandey’s request, noting that no cognizable offense was established against the leaders as alleged.
Pandey argued that both leaders were attempting to disrupt the atmosphere in Varanasi by making controversial remarks regarding an object found inside the Gyanvapi Mosque, which is claimed to be a Shiva Linga. He contended that, despite the Supreme Court not commenting on the issue, the leaders were trying to incite public emotions for electoral gains.
His plea further claimed that their “objectionable remarks” had hurt the sentiments of Hindus.
