A Bengaluru court on Saturday remanded former Member of Parliament Prajwal Revanna to judicial custody until July 8 following the completion of his police custody in a molestation case filed against him.
Special Magistrate KN Shivakumar had initially sent the suspended Janata Dal (Secular) leader to the custody of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) on April 25. The SIT is probing charges of sexual abuse against him, which stemmed from the circulation of over 2,900 videos depicting the sexual assault of several women, shared online and on social media.
On April 28, a first information report (FIR) was registered against Prajwal Revanna and his father HD Revanna under Sections 354A (sexual harassment), 354D (stalking), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 509 (insult to the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Holenaraseepur town police station in Hassan district. The criminal case was filed based on a complaint by one of the victims. Senior IPS officer BK Singh led the SIT investigation.
Following the allegations, Prajwal Revanna fled to Germany shortly after the April 26 Lok Sabha polls in Karnataka. He was arrested upon his return to India on May 31.
Revanna was initially in SIT custody from May 31 to June 10. He was then placed in SIT custody again from June 13 to 18 for a second rape case, and for a third rape case, the SIT was given custody until June 24.
