The Faculty of Law at Delhi University (DU) has postponed the LL.B exams originally scheduled for December 26, 2024, following a student protest on Monday, December 16.
Students from DU’s Campus Law Centre, Law Centre -1, and Law Centre-2 had been vocal about their concerns regarding the incomplete syllabus, which they attributed to recent faculty changes and the last-minute appointment of guest faculty. Students claimed these disruptions hindered their ability to prepare for the upcoming exams adequately. They demanded a delay in the exams to give them more time for preparation.
When the Dean, Prof. Anju Vali Tikoo, did not address their requests, students organized a peaceful protest outside the campus. Later that evening, the protest escalated, with students blocking the Dean’s exit from the campus. Around 60 police officers and some paramilitary forces were deployed to the scene. Tear gas was reportedly used to disperse the crowd, according to a student who spoke to Bar & Bench.
Following these events, the Faculty of Law issued a notice announcing the postponement of the LL.B exams scheduled for December 26. The notice, signed by the Dean, reads, “The Date Sheet relating to LL.B I/III/V Term December/January 2024 Examination scheduled from December 26, 2024 is put on hold.”
