On Tuesday, the Supreme Court Collegium recommended the appointment of Justice Narendar G, currently a judge of the Andhra Pradesh High Court, as the Chief Justice of the Uttarakhand High Court. This appointment will take effect following the retirement of the current Chief Justice, Ritu Bahri, on October 10.
“The Collegium proposes to appoint Mr. Justice Narendar G, presently serving as a Judge of the High Court of Andhra Pradesh, as the Chief Justice of the High Court of Uttarakhand, effective from the date the incumbent Chief Justice retires,” stated the Collegium resolution.
Justice Narendar G was first appointed as a judge of the Karnataka High Court on January 2, 2015, and was later transferred to the Andhra Pradesh High Court on October 30, 2023. He has been serving there since and is the senior-most judge in his original High Court, belonging to the Other Backward Class category.
Prior to his elevation, he practiced before the Karnataka High Court and has accumulated significant experience in both judicial and administrative roles within the High Courts of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. The resolution highlighted that the Karnataka High Court currently lacks representation among the Chief Justices of the High Courts.
