India is facing threats from neighboring countries, and we should learn from and be cautious about the recent events in Bangladesh that led to the ousting of Sheikh Hasina’s government, said Bar Council of India (BCI) Chairman Manan Kumar Mishra on Friday.
Mishra highlighted that the people of Bangladesh did not fully value their freedom, and now people of all faiths are under threat there.
“Look at what is happening in Bangladesh. They gained freedom, but they didn’t respect it. Today, not only Hindus but everyone is under threat. They didn’t understand the importance of freedom,” he remarked.
Mishra emphasized that the legal community has a responsibility to educate the public about the threats India faces.
“There are foreign forces and certain enemies among our neighbors. These threats to our country, both internal and external, can only be fully understood by the lawyer community, who must then make the rest of society aware,” he stated.
Mishra made these comments during the inauguration of a new Bar Council of Delhi Bhawan block.
He has been nominated as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance’s Rajya Sabha candidate from Bihar.
At the event, Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal mentioned that the Central government is addressing insurance issues for lawyers and has discussed the Advocates Protection Act with Mishra.
Delhi High Court Acting Chief Justice Manmohan also spoke, expressing concern over the ethical compromises in the legal profession. He emphasized that professional standards have declined compared to the past.
“The stream of justice is sacred. We must guide the bar to ensure that the stream of justice remains unpolluted and pure. The future of the legal profession relies heavily on this principle,” he stated.
